Wet Ride in Subic With Cupcake Bikers

One of my favorite biking destinations is the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Freeport Zone in Olongapo. Whenever I visit Subic with my family for a much needed breather from the hustle and bustle of Metro Manila, I always bring my bike with me.

At the Subic Bay Yacht Club. Taken last May 19, 2017, a day before I took on the Audax 200 challenge.

Subic is a haven for bikers. It offers safe and wide roads for those who would like to take long rides with a road bike. It is blessed also with beautiful mountain ranges that offers mountain bikers several trails to explore.

Last Saturday, August 11, 2018, we were in Subic again. Together with good friend Gardo Versoza, founder of Cupcake Bikers 143, his wife Ivy, and several Cupcake Bikers, we initially planned to take a road trip to San Narciso town in Zambales. This is the same route taken by bikers joining the Audax long distance cycling event.

Original plan was to take a 36 kms. ride to San Narciso, Zambales

But because of the continuous monsoon rains, we decided to just bike around the SBMA Freeport area. We started a bit late, around 10:30 AM already because we were still waiting for the rains to stopped.

We took off at Slabs Diner and Steak House, owned by our friend Adel, who happens to be an avid biker too. This is off topic, but if ever you’re in Subic, don’t miss to try out their dry aged steak. They’re the best in Subic and you’ll come back for more.

Starting point.

We headed for All Hands Beach resort passing through Rizal and Argonaut Highway. Then we just circled back towards the freeport area via the airport road.

Catching our breath.

I have recorded our ride in Strava which in turn was made into an animation by Relive. Check out the route that we took.

It was a wet but fun ride since the rains just wouldn’t stopped. I have recorded a video of our bike ride and I will just let the video speak for itself how we enjoyed biking in Subic despite the rains. Check it out below.
